It’s a common question our expert coaching team get asked: ‘how do I get what I want in life?’

The good news is, it doesn’t have to be quite as difficult as we sometimes make it for ourselves.

We can get what we want with much more ease when we know how to get the best out of our mind.

We’ve helped so many people get what they want out of life, and as our ethos is about putting people in the driving seat of their thoughts and feelings, we thought we would share 3 personal development tips for getting what you want in life, so you can start benefitting straight away for free.

It is no coincidence that the most successful people in world, invest in themselves, they nurture their mind.

This is number one of the ‘7 habits the most successful people in the world have’, according to inc.com.

Where do you start on your personal development journey?

1. Make personal development a lifestyle

Instead of thinking you must make a HUGE change, you’d be surprised at how quickly you get a huge change, just by taking small steps in the right direction.

With physical exercise, you often hear the expression ‘start by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.’

It’s about adjusting the choices you make day to day to fit with your desired outcomes.

So our first tip is:

Choose to make self-development a lifestyle. Make your routines work for you so you always move forward in your life.

Write down all your day to day behaviours and as you look at them on paper, ask yourself ‘how can I make small steps which would transform my lifestyle to get me what I want in life?’

Let’s say you want to progress to a Senior Leadership role in your career and you write down your daily habits which include:

  • Working through breaks
  • Grabbing coffee on the go
  • Working late and never having dinner at the same time

You may think these habits work in your favour, but it depends on how you look at it.

Imagine you are already a Senior Leader, people take their lead from you, if you have a work-late culture, you may have a team of people who burn themselves out.

When you’re a Senior Leader you’ll want to have good relationships with people, in fact, no matter what you do, having good relationships is important and valuable.

So isolating yourself at every opportunity in breaks may not help you with the likeability factor, you could get from taking time to speak to people.

There’s no right or wrong, it depends on what you want out of life.

What we’re saying here, is pay attention to your small actions and behaviors and ask yourself if they are serving you in accomplishing what you want from life.

2. Give your mind more resources

Your mind is limitless, it can do so much. When you use your mind consciously, it wants to help, it feels nourished, like giving water and light to a plant and it grows.

If you don’t look after it, it can run a little wild and go off track and the weeds can overtake the plants.

The way to ensure you keep a happy, healthy mind, equipped to get you what you want in life, is to keep planting more seeds, so the mind has no space for weeds.

You can plant new seeds every time you learn, read or develop.

It gives the mind a new lease of life.

So that’s why the most successful people in life have self-development reading or learning time every day.

It can be tricky if you have family, busy jobs etc., there is always some form of excuse if you allow it to take over.

It requires you to decide if what you want in life is worth it. If developing yourself every day achieved the life you wanted, would you do it?

If so, make the time. You’re worth it.

At Life Ladder we do understand how important it is to make self-development easy, that’s why our personal development platform is so flexible, easy to access, on the go, any time day or night, with limitless access to learning and fresh growth opportunities every day without fail. 3. Choose your focus

Getting what you want in life requires your attention. If you want to attract a romantic partner and keep them, you wouldn’t ignore their needs and never so much as look at them, right?

The key to success is to pursue what you want with the desire and attention you would give to a partner, when sparks are flying, and it feels exciting.

Give what you want your focus and make it a priority.

Review how you use your time and energy and consider if the action you take is a pathway in life, is it taking you in the right direction towards what you want? or is it taking you away on the long route or even a dead end?

You have a lot of energy and power, more than you even realise. We promise. It’s a subject we have studied and devoted ourselves to, which has helped us enable many people to change their lives.

So start valuing your energy, your thoughts, your emotion and turn it to the things that matter to you. This will get you what you want in life.

As Huffpost says: ‘Whatever you focus on expands.’
